Diabetes

Diabetes is a lifelong metabolic condition that causes a person’s blood sugar level to become too high over a prolonged period. There are two main types of diabetes: type 1, where the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the cell that produce insulin and type 2, where the body doesn’t produce enough insulin, or the body’s cells don’t react to insulin. In the UK, type 2 diabetes is more common, it affects 90% of all adults with diabetes.
You learn the details of the standards within the National Service Framework (NSF) for diabetes, the context of assessment, treatment and management of the disease in adults, children and adolescents, as well as the implementation of these standards within the community and hospital settings.
